Mürren Schilthorn
Every year in January ever since 1928 Mürren is hosting the most famous, longest and oldest Ski-race of the world, the Inferno-downhill run. 1400 competitors start out at the Schilthorn in 2970 m altitude and reach the goal 16 kilometres later at Lauterbrunnen (800 m). Infernal snowboarders also get served in Mürren: For one part there’s the very reliable snow conditions - especially in spring, the place is first choice! It might take some nasty traversing at the Schilthorn summit, but you’re quickly being reimbursed for that by those pretty demanding slopes. Powder can be found at the Engetal-lift and at the Schiltgrat-chairlift. Additionally cracks will find a fat snow park for airtime and carving next to the Kandahar-chairlift. Regularly in March there’s a major snowboard competition for giant slalom and half pipe with great prizes waiting. Not to forget the virtual absence of queues at the lifts. Just enough time to note the breathtaking surrounding: Mürren is situated on a Plateau overlooking the valley of Lauterbrunnen. So you really get the sun blazing down... The summits of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau present the village with one of the greatest panoramas to be found in the alps. By the way: Mürren can only be reached by Mürrenbahn railway from Lauterbrunnen, or via gondola from Stechelberg and is therefore free from car traffic. Accordingly it’s a rather calm place, which still has some action to offer for younger people though!
